Hundreds of Cruise Ship Passengers Sick in San Diego

According to the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), over 100 passengers on a Celebrity Infinity cruise ship that arrived home in San Diego last week are complaining of symptoms like nausea and vomiting, according to the LA Times on April 14.

The cruise ship departed on March 29th to travel around the Mexican Riviera. The cause of the illness is unknown, but after a thorough cleaning and inspection by health officials, it is suspected that norovirus is to blame.

This ship was the first of two last week to unload a large percentage of sick passengers. Shortly after the Infinity docked, the cruise ship Legend of The Seas arrived with 130 more passengers complaining of similar symptoms. The Legend of the Seas had just finished a two-week long Panama Canal cruise after departing from Ft. Lauterdale, Florida.

It is the responsibility of cruise ship officials to maintain a healthy environment for their passengers.
